Khirbet Qumran
This multi-faceted, encaustic/mixed media piece tells the dynamic story of the ancient sect of the Essenes. They withdrew to the desert to live a holy life, synchronized with the God of the Scriptures.
These men recorded and preserved the holy writings for humankind, recently rediscovered in 1947. The frame replicates the 5x5 meter squares utilized in the excavation.
Winter rains filled cisterns and ritual baths. Fire heated pottery kilns and lit their oil lamps. The elements shaped the terrain and caves, the sanctuary for the scroll jars.
It’s has been a privilege to be a part of the Qumran excavations and subsequently tell the Dead Sea Scrolls story through my art.
The multi-media, encaustic images above capture the essence of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls story. Please click on the images for further insights into the story.
