The encaustic medium and process used to create the artistic expressions in this Gallery lends itself very well to the Biblical message. It's about building layers of wax and incorporating components strategically in the telling of the Story.

    Each layer has a special relation to the other, building upon and serving as the foundation of the adjoining layers. Both depth and luminosity are unique qualities of this medium.

     Encaustic is both an additive and subtractive process.  It's about incorporating various art expressions, pigments, text, photography, artifacts, and even natural organic materials.

About the Images

  As stated on my home page, my most recent focus of artistic expression, one of the oldest mediums, is encaustic painting. Encaustic means "to burn" utilizing beeswax. Its origins date back thousands of years.

    The Greeks not only used beeswax to seal their sailing ships, but also to decorate them. Egyptian artists later used this wax medium on mummies to preserve portraits of their rulers.

    The Romans used the process for decorative purposes. Subsequently the Byzantines used beeswax to create icons of their saints.
